First Batch of Regional Course on Good Health Research Practice (GHRP)
July 27 – 30, 2015, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Yogyakarta – Indonesia. With the support from WHO/TDR, Center for Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada (CTM-UGM) has conducted successfully the first batch of Good Health Research Practice (GHRP) Course at the Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta from July 27 to 30, 2015. The goal of this course is to impart knowledge and skills onimplementing concept and principles of good research practices in human health research. This course provides participants with the necessary tools to facilitate the design, conduct, record and report of research project according to ethical and quality principles.
Among the applicants, five groups or 15 participants from SEAR countries (India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Indonesia) were selected as the WHO/TDR scholarship recipients. The selection was based on their research proposal in the application form, CV, recommendation and motivational letters. They were Arun Jithendra Muralidharan, Praveenkumar Aivalli and Samantha Christina Lobbo (Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru, India); Ari Natalia Probandari, Vitri Widyaningsih, and Kusmadewi Eka Damayanti (Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Indonesia); Khaleda Islam, Iqbal Ansary Khan, and Mohammad Sohel Samad (Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research, Dhaka, Bangladesh); Dewi Marhaeni Diah Herawati, Deni Kurniadi Sunjaya and Sri Yusnita Irda Sari (Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Padjajaran University, Bandung, Indonesia); Samyog Uprety, Ram Bilakshan Sah and Avaniendra Chakravartty (School of Public Health & Community Medicine, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health sciences, Dharan, Nepal). Two observers (Nandy WIlasto and Harry Freitag Luglio Muhammad) who are researchers in UGM participated in the course and 4 experienced facilitators (Varalakshmi Elango – India, Patricia Henley – LSHTM, UK, Yodi Mahendradhata and Riri sAndono Ahmad – UGM) were involved in this course. Overall, participants felt the benefits from this 4 day course and recommended those who are from LMICs/SEAR countries to take this course to improve their research capacity.The 2nd batch of Regional Course on GHRP will be held in collaboration with Insititute of Public Health, Bangalore-India on May 2016 with providing up to 7 full scholarships and 8 partial scholarships from WHO/TDR.
