Dear Colleagues,
We invite TDR Global members to apply for Research Mentorship Challenge Contest, available at : https://www.seshglobal.org/TDRmentorshipcontest.
TDR Global is a community of passionate scientists and experts who have been working with the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO-TDR) to support global research effort on infectious diseases of poverty. All TDR grantees, TDR fellows, TDR experts and researchers, or TDR sponsors and partners are eligible to participate in the contest.
We often think about research mentorship as a multi-year big process and forget that good mentorship starts with a series of smaller habits. Enhancing research mentorship is a priority for TDR Global. The purpose of this challenge is to generate practical ideas to improve research mentorship in LMIC settings.
For example, from a mentee’s perspective, how do you prepare for meetings with your research mentor? From a mentor’s perspective, how do you guide a mentee in writing her/his first journal paper? For example, a mentee noted: “Perhaps the most important aspect of the program is the communication with my mentor on a biweekly basis. That was what helped me to keep in focus and never give up.” Exceptional ideas will be recognized by the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), and implemented at selected sites.
The challenge has global and regional prizes. Regional prizes will celebrate excellence from respective TDR RTC regions (Latin America/Caribbean, Africa, Asia). One individual will be selected from regional finalists and supported to attend the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Conference in Washington DC in April 2020. In terms of the regional prize, the 1st and 2nd winners from Asia will receive financial support to present their ideas in an international conference in Indonesia and additional small grants of USD $2,500 to pilot their mentoring ideas.
The Centre for Tropical Medicine at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia is a partner on this project, in collaboration with the Social Entrepreneurship to Spur Health (SESH) and supported by the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR).
Please share this opportunity with your relevant networks. Any questions from participants from regional Asia may be directed to : malida.magista@mail.ugm.ac.id
